BSF Jawan Suspended After On-Camera Incident of Groping Woman in Manipur Store

In a shocking incident captured on CCTV, a Head Constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) was caught sexually assaulting a woman inside a grocery store in the ethnically strife-torn region of Manipur.

The incident, which occurred on July 20 at a shop near a petrol pump in Imphal, came to light after the footage was widely circulated on social media, sparking outrage among the public.

The accused perpetrator has been identified as Head Constable Satish Prasad, who was seen in uniform and carrying an INSAS rifle while groping the woman. As soon as the BSF authorities received a complaint about the incident, they promptly launched an internal probe. Consequently, Head Constable Satish Prasad has been suspended from duty, and a case has been registered against him.

A senior officer from the BSF stated, “He has been kept in close arrest, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against him.”

The suspension and subsequent action against the accused have been taken to ensure a swift and thorough investigation into the matter.

Manipur has been grappling with a challenging situation, compounded by the recent circulation of another video showing two women being paraded naked in Thoubal district before allegedly being gang-raped. The disturbing video had triggered widespread outrage, leading to the arrest of seven people, including one juvenile, in connection with the case.

In response to the incidents of sexual violence and public outcry, Manipur Police have been actively pursuing investigations. Several Zero FIRs (First Information Reports) have been filed in connection with cases of sexual violence, but progress has been hampered as victims and survivors are yet to join the investigation.

Additionally, the police are also taking action against those who are circulating fake news in the region. Recently, the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) registered a case after a video of a tragic murder of a woman by armed men in Myanmar was falsely attributed to Manipur and circulated to incite unrest in the violence-hit northeastern state.
