In Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, police carried out an encounter late Monday night in the Bhojipura police station area during an anti–cattle smuggling operation. The action led to the arrest of an accused identified as Zahid alias “Anda”, who was injured after being shot in the leg during retaliatory firing.
According to police officials, the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about active cattle smugglers in the region.
Encounter during police search operation
Police said the encounter took place when a team was patrolling and checking suspected movement of cattle smugglers. During the operation, police came face-to-face with Zahid and his associate Azeem.
An exchange of fire followed, in which Zahid sustained a bullet injury to his leg and fell on the spot. He was immediately taken into custody and sent for medical treatment.
A police constable named Vikas was also injured during the encounter and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Accused had prior criminal cases
Officials confirmed that Zahid alias “Anda” was already facing at least two criminal cases related to cattle smuggling registered at Bhojipura police station. His associate Azeem managed to escape from the spot after the encounter, and police teams have launched a search operation to trace him.
