A Dalit student from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Morning), Delhi University, has filed a police complaint against the college Principal, Arun Kumar Attree, accusing him of using casteist slurs, mentally harassing, and physically assaulting him. The allegations have sparked protests from students and teachers demanding the Principal’s resignation.
In his complaint, the student claimed that he was falsely implicated in an incident involving obscene messages on the department’s official WhatsApp group. He alleged that the Principal pressured him to take responsibility for the messages and subjected him to mental harassment. According to the student, he was forced to stand as punishment for three hours while being harassed by the Principal.
Principal Arun Kumar Attree has denied the allegations, stating that the student has been influenced by a teacher who is currently under inquiry for submitting false certifications. Attree also claimed that the student had been accused of hacking phones and sending obscene messages, which led to an inquiry against him.
The SFI held a protest on North Campus, demanding the suspension and arrest of the principal. In their statement, they said, “The Principal made the student stand in punishment for three hours while continuously harassing him. Such casteist behavior is unacceptable in an educational institution.”
The SDTF condemned the incident, stating,”The Principal slapped a Dalit student of Hindi (Hons). His act is against human dignity and the duties of a public servant. The student remains in trauma and is facing mental agony.”
They demanded immediate action against the Principal.
