Former Mayor and AIMIM Leader Abdul Malik Shot in Malegaon, Maharashtra; In Critical Condition

Unknown assailants opened fire on AIMIM leader and former Mayor Abdul Malik in Malegaon, Maharashtra. Malik was shot three times and is currently in critical condition, receiving treatment at a local hospital. The attack took place late Sunday evening, causing a tense atmosphere in the area.

According to reports, Abdul Malik was having tea at a hotel in Malegaon Chowk when three attackers arrived on a motorcycle and fired three rounds at him. Malik was immediately rushed to the hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Following the attack, a large police presence has been deployed in Malegaon to maintain order as AIMIM supporters took to the streets in protest. Authorities are actively searching for the assailants, although identifying them has been challenging due to the absence of CCTV footage in the exact location of the shooting. However, police are reviewing other CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

This is not the first time AIMIM leaders have been targeted. In February of this year, Abdul Salam, also known as Aslam Mukhi, the state secretary of AIMIM and Saran in-charge, was shot and killed in Gopalganj, Bihar. Aslam Mukhi had contested the assembly by-election for the Gopalganj Sadar seat in November 2023.
