In 2024, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir carried out several operations, killing 69 militants, including 24 local militants, 27 foreign militants, and 18 infiltrators. These operations took place across various parts of the region.

Some of the identified local militants killed included Bilal Rasool Bhat from Shopian, Danish Aijaz Sheikh from Srinagar, and LeT commanders Basit Dar and Umar Khan from Pulwama. The majority of these operations were carried out in difficult terrain, with foreign militants also being targeted. The army killed 18 infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in areas like Uri, Kupwara, and Rajouri, according to Kashmir News Trust.

However, 2024 also saw the loss of six civilians in various militancy-related incidents. Among them were Muhammad Razad, the brother of a Territorial Army personnel, and BJP sarpanch Aijaz Sheikh, both killed by militants. Vasudev, a 28-year-old worker from Akhnoor, was shot by the Border Security Force in Samba, while Abdul Rashid and four others, including a doctor, were killed in different attacks. In another incident, a woman named Abida alias Samiya was killed in a grenade attack in Srinagar.

Police also said that 14 foreign militants were neutralized in Jammu, and 13 militant modules were busted. “We were able to dismantle several terror networks this year, dealing a significant blow to those attempting to disrupt peace,” a police spokesperson stated.

Over 800 overground workers (OGWs) were arrested in Jammu, the police said.
