A Muslim organisation in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district has demanded that cows be declared the national animal of India and called for a stronger nationwide law to ensure cattle protection.

On Thursday afternoon, members of the Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India through the district administration at the Collectorate in Khargone.

The delegation handed over the memorandum to Deputy Collector P.S. Agasiya, urging the government to frame strict legislation for the protection and conservation of cattle across the country.

According to the organisation, a strong legal framework is necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of cows and other cattle.

“Cow Is an Important Part of Indian Culture and Rural Economy”

Speaking during the memorandum submission, the council’s state vice-president, Azizuddin Sheikh, said cows have historically played an important role in India’s culture, agriculture, and rural economy.

“The cow has been an important foundation of Indian culture, the agricultural system, and the rural economy. Therefore, there is a need for an effective and strict law for cattle protection,” Sheikh said.

The organisation also urged the government to consider granting cows the status of the national animal, arguing that such a move would help strengthen conservation efforts.

Delegation Included Local Muslim Leaders

Several members of the council were present during the submission of the memorandum.

Among those present were state vice-president Azizuddin Sheikh, district president Abdul Rahim Khan, councillor Shakeel Khan, Irfan Sheikh, Abrar Sheikh, councillor representative Altaf Khan, and Haji Farooq Khan, along with other members of the organisation.

The demand comes amid continuing discussions in different parts of the country over cattle protection laws and the cultural significance of cows in India.
