On Eid ul Adha, Zakir Mian Sheikh, 46, was killed for opposing his daughter’s interfaith marriage. The incident occurred around 11:30 am at Zakir’s Titwala apartment while the family was celebrating the festival.

Three men stormed into an apartment, hurling derogatory remarks at Zakir before attacking him and three women with sharp-edged weapons and sticks. Zakir sustained a severe head injury and was initially treated at Central Hospital in Ilhas Nagar, then transferred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa, where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

A family member told the media that a boy named Avinash Kharat had a one-sided love affair with Zakir’s 18-year-old girl. A few days ago, the accused Avinash had threatened Zakir that he would break into his house and kill him.

Police said that the accused had persistently proposed marriage to Zakir’s daughter, despite repeated rejections. On Eid day, he visited Zakir’s home to discuss the proposal again, resulting in a physical altercation. Attempts to intervene were met with resistance, causing injuries to those involved.

Following Zakir’s death late Tuesday night, Kalyan Taluka police have filed a murder FIR under Section 302 of the IPC and initiated a search for the trio involved. Meanwhile, Titwala Taluka police have detained two individuals in connection with the case.
