In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a 22-year-old Dalit man allegedly set himself on fire after being assaulted and subjected to caste-based abuse. Police said the incident took place on Friday night in Gangdhari village under the Khatauli police station area.
The victim, identified as Himanshu Kumar, suffered severe burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a higher medical centre. Officials said his condition is stable.
Alleged Assault and Caste Slurs
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Himanshu worked as a labourer for a local farmer, identified as Gaurav alias Tinku. On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly asked Himanshu to load flowers onto a cart.
