The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday declared the results of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, with 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country.
The re-examination was conducted on June 21 after the earlier NEET UG examination was cancelled following an alleged paper leak. Nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared for the fresh test.
The qualified candidates are now eligible for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other undergraduate medical courses through the counselling process.
Punjab and Haryana students secure top rank
Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana jointly topped the examination by scoring 715 out of 720 marks.
According to the NTA, 19 candidates scored above 700 marks, while 138 candidates secured more than 690 marks. Of these top scorers, 93 per cent cleared the examination on their first attempt, and 99 per cent were between 17 and 19 years of age.
The examination was conducted in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and Bengali.
Women record higher qualification rate
Women accounted for more than 58 per cent of all successful candidates and also recorded a higher qualification rate than men.
The pass rate among female candidates stood at 56.8 per cent, compared to 55.1 per cent among male candidates.
Uttar Pradesh records highest number of successful candidates
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of qualified candidates, with more than 1.7 lakh students clearing the examination, while Lakshadweep had 43 successful candidates.
The top 17 ranks, with scores above 705 marks, were shared by candidates from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Regional toppers included Jigmet Yangchan Lamo from Ladakh, Dhruv Tripathi from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Fahmida Anees from Lakshadweep.
Rajasthan leads representation in top 100
Rajasthan had the highest representation among the top 100 rank holders with 12 candidates, followed by Maharashtra with 11.
Punjab and Delhi each had eight candidates in the top 100, while Tamil Nadu contributed seven. Gujarat and Karnataka had six candidates each.
Female candidates also featured prominently among the top ranks, including Shravani Kudale from Maharashtra, who secured All India Rank 5, and Riya Ranjan from Bihar, who secured All India Rank 6.
Category-wise results and counselling
Among the successful candidates, 5.12 lakh belonged to the Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) category. This was followed by 2.91 lakh candidates from the General category, 1.59 lakh from the Scheduled Caste category, 95,026 from the General-EWS category and 63,716 from the Scheduled Tribe category. A total of 3,666 Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and 303 Persons with Disabilities also qualified.
The NTA said its responsibility is limited to conducting the examination and declaring the All India Rank. Merit lists, domicile verification and counselling for seat allotment will be handled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the respective state authorities.
