National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Ministry of Education released this year’s rankings under 13 categories encompassing Universities, colleges, research institutes and fields like engineering, medicine, management, law etc.
Among the top universities for engineering, IIT Madras is at the top for the eighth consecutive year. Indian Institute of Science from Bangalore takes the second position. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Kanpur as third, fourth and fifth ranks respectively.
IIT Madras has topped in both overall and engineering.
After IISc Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia secured second and third ranks among ten universities ranked in total under the “Universities” category.
Jamia Millia Islamia ranked third for three successive years now. Aligarh Muslim University stands in the 8th position after Manipal, BHU, Delhi University and Coimbatore’s Amrita Vishwa University.
AIIMS Delhi tops among other medical colleges with NIMHANS Bengaluru in fourth position. In “ Best colleges” three colleges in top three from Delhi: Hindu College, Miranda House and St. Stephen’s College.
The NIRF rankings every year help students to choose the best universities and excel in their academics. This year, NIRF has included new categories, namely, “ open universities” “skill universities” and State funded Government Universities. Anil Sahasrabudhe, the AICTE chairperson revealed plans to include ‘sustainability rankings’ in the future.
