BJP’s Nishikant Dubey Slams SC Over Waqf Bill; Owaisi Hits Back with ‘Tube Light’ Jibe

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi hits out on BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Sunday, after he questioned Supreme Court’s authority and accused it of overstepping its mandate.

His comments came in the wake of recent judicial interventions that, according to him, bypass parliamentary supremacy.

In response, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned Dubey’s remarks, calling them an attempt to intimidate the judiciary and “threaten the courts with religious war.”

Referring to BJP leaders, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “You people are tube lights… Do you know what Article 142 (of the Constitution) is? It was framed by BR Ambedkar.”

Dubey had claimed the apex court was pushing India toward “anarchy” and exceeding its jurisdiction by delivering verdicts on sensitive matters like homosexuality and religious sites. He alleged the court had taken on legislative functions, sidelining Parliament.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Dubey said, “The Supreme Court seems to follow a principle of ‘show me the face, and I’ll show you the law.’” He claimed that the judiciary is exceeding its constitutional limits.

“If everything is to be decided by the Supreme Court, then we should shut down Parliament and State Assemblies,” he added.

He further alleged that the Supreme Court is leading the country towards “anarchy.” “Where is it written that the President must act within three months? You are making new laws through judgments,” he said.

Dubey also took aim at the Court’s approach to religious site disputes, including the Ram Mandir and Gyanvapi mosque cases. “When it comes to temples built after Mughal invasions, you demand documentary proof. Where will such papers come from?”

BJP Distances Itself from Nishikant Dubey Remarks

Following public outcry, the BJP swiftly distanced itself from Dubey’s remarks. BJP national president JP Nadda said that the party “completely rejects” the comments made by Dubey and fellow BJP leader Dinesh Sharma, who also made similar claims about the judiciary.

In a post on X, Nadda wrote, “These are their personal opinions. The BJP neither agrees with them nor supports such statements. Our party has always respected the judiciary and accepted its decisions.”

Nadda also confirmed that both MPs have been advised against making such remarks in the future.

Owaisi Hits Back on Dubey’s Remarks

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned Dubey’s rhetoric, saying the BJP had become so “radicalised” that it now threatens constitutional institutions. “You’re threatening the judiciary with religious war,” he said.

His statement drew attention to rising tensions between the executive and judiciary, particularly as the Supreme Court continues to play a pivotal role in interpreting laws on contentious social and political issues.
