The Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has secured interim relief from the Supreme Court, preventing the proposed demolition of 25 residential houses in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district.
The relief came after APCR challenged a notice and an order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Jabalpur Bench directing the demolition of the houses. The organisation approached the Supreme Court on an urgent basis, seeking immediate intervention to protect the affected families.
According to APCR, the Supreme Court directed that no demolition should take place until the matter is taken up for consideration, effectively putting the proposed demolition drive on hold for now.
Emergency Petition Filed Before Supreme Court
APCR said its legal team, comprising advocates Nizam Pasha, Ahmad Ibrahim, Kabeer Paul, Awstika Das, and Advocate-on-Record Lzafeer Ahmed BF, prepared and filed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) through the court’s urgent filing procedure.
The case has been registered as Kamrun Nisha & Others vs. Municipal Corporation, Khandwa & Others (Diary No. 45938/2026).
Although the petition is yet to be formally listed before the Supreme Court, the interim direction ensures that the 25 houses will not be demolished until the court hears the matter.
APCR Welcomes Interim Relief
In a statement, APCR said the interim protection has provided immediate relief to the affected families, who were facing the imminent loss of their homes.
The organisation said, “The Supreme Court has granted interim protection by directing that no demolition shall take place until the matter is taken up for consideration. Consequently, the proposed bulldozer action against all 25 houses has been halted for the time being.”
APCR added that it appreciates the efforts of its legal team in responding to the emergency and will continue to represent the affected families before the Supreme Court.
“This interim protection provides immediate relief to the 25 affected families, who were facing the imminent threat of losing their homes,” the organisation said.
The matter will now be taken up by the Supreme Court for further consideration, where the legality of the proposed demolition will be examined.
