A third-year engineering student in Telangana has been arrested for allegedly raping his 20-year-old classmate after forcing her to consume alcohol, police said. The accused, identified as Uday Kumar, and the survivor are both students of a private engineering college in the Ibrahimpatnam area.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered and the accused has been sent to judicial remand after arrest.

“They Knew Each Other for Some Time”

According to officials, the accused and the survivor were acquainted for a while and studied in the same college. Both were staying in separate private PG accommodations outside the campus.

The incident reportedly took place on May 14 when Kumar invited the woman to Dilsukhnagar under the pretext of meeting for tea.

Forced Alcohol Consumption Before Assault, Say Police

As per the police complaint, while returning to their hostel area, the accused stopped the vehicle near BDL Road and purchased alcohol from a liquor shop.

Police said, “He forced her to consume alcohol at a secluded location.”

The survivor was allegedly intoxicated after being made to drink, following which the accused took her to a friend’s room in Ibrahimpatnam, claiming she could stay there for the night.

Alleged Sexual Assault in Secluded Room

Police further stated that the accused later raped the woman at the location where he had taken her. The survivor was in an intoxicated condition at the time of the incident, according to the complaint.

The next morning, she approached Ibrahimpatnam police station and filed a formal complaint.

Based on her statement, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Accused Arrested, Sent to Judicial Custody

Following the complaint, police arrested Uday Kumar and produced him before a court, which sent him to judicial remand.

Officials said further investigation is underway to verify all circumstances of the incident, including the sequence of events and the location where the alleged crime occurred.

Police Issue Warning to Students

Authorities also issued an advisory to students in the Ibrahimpatnam region, which has several engineering colleges and student hostels.

Police said misuse of trust or forcing someone into unsafe situations, including consumption of alcohol, is a serious offence.

A police official said, “Taking advantage of someone’s trust and forcing them into such situations is a criminal offence and will destroy your future.”

They further appealed to students to act responsibly, adding, “Your parents have sent you here to study. You are adults and must understand what constitutes a crime.”
