VHP leader Mahaveer Prasad threatened the Hindu community against the Muslim population through an inflammatory hate speech in Delhi’s Kamla Nagar on October 28. In an internal meeting of VHP members, he said that the Muslim population has grown fast in the past 77-78 years and has escalated to 28-30 crores.
“We must also have a population between 20 to 22 crores at a minimum! But where are the Hindus? If only 8 crore Muslims were able to break the country, what would they do now with a population of 38-30 crores?” he said during the meeting.
He said that within 7-8 years the Muslim population in India would reach 45-50 crores.
The VHP leader also mentioned the Bangladeshi crisis and interrelated it with the Indian context without any sincere reason.
“Vo Nara-e-Takbeer Allahu Akbar Bolenge aur Dilli ko gher lenge,” (They will shout Nara-E-Takbeer and surround New Delhi!), he said, inciting hate.
“They will pack food and water for three days and then the 50 Lakh Muslim population would reach and surround New Delhi,” he added.
An Attempt To Inflame Propaganda
In 1951, India had 84.1% Hindu and 9.8% Muslim population.
As per the 2011 census, the Indian Muslim population grew from 13.4% to 14.2% between 2001 to 2011 and there were only 17.22 crore Muslims across India in 2011 which made 14.2% of the total population.
A report from the Pew Research Center claims that Muslims will remain a minority in India.
The data presented by the Hindutva leader was severely misleading and a part of conspiracy theories of right-wing organizations. Except this, presenting Muslims as one who divides, is also not true. The hate speech regarding the population of Muslims is a demonstration of Islamophobia, which is being peddled via the Hindutva network. Mahaveer’s urge to depict Muslims as a threat without any reason is a conspiracy-infused hate mission which needs to be banned.
