In Avinashi, Tamil Nadu, a nine-year-old Dalit boy was allegedly tied up and beaten by a 26-year-old man from the Gounder community on Saturday, December 21. The boy had scribbled on the dust settled on the man’s car, leading to the assault.

The accused, identified as Mohan, reportedly dragged the boy into his house, tied him up, and beat him for over an hour. The boy’s cries alerted his relatives, who entered Mohan’s house to rescue him and questioned the assault.

In retaliation, Mohan allegedly stabbed two of the boy’s relatives, Karupathal (55) and Selvaraj (47), before fleeing the scene.

The victims were rushed to the Avinashi Government Hospital for first aid and later transferred to a private hospital in Tiruppur for further treatment.

The Cheyur police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arrested Mohan on the same day.
