The district administration of Sitapur has come under heavy criticism after releasing a list of 60 individuals from Tambaur Town who are facing legal action for peacefully protesting against the Waqf Amendment Bill. The individuals, including several Imams and Maulanas, had worn black bands on their arms during Eid Namaz as a symbolic form of dissent.

The legal actions were sanctioned by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Laharpur, and the accused have been ordered to pay a security bond of ₹1,00,000 each.

The protest had been peaceful, with no reports of violence or public disturbances. However, the authorities have taken a hard stance, citing “breach of peace” and other legal charges.

The controversy has added fuel to the ongoing national debate over the Waqf Amendment Bill, with protests and legal challenges continuing to unfold across the country.
