Tension broke out in a village in Sambhal district after a Dalit wedding procession was allegedly attacked for playing songs dedicated to B. R. Ambedkar, leaving several people injured.
The incident took place in Allipur Buzurg village under the Baniyather police station area when a wedding procession reached the village on April 29.
According to the bride’s family, songs praising Ambedkar were being played on a DJ system when a group of men objected.
“They stopped the procession and started arguing over the songs. Soon after, they began assaulting people,” the bride’s father Tejpal alleged.
Several Injured in Violence
The altercation quickly turned violent, with reports of sticks being used during the clash. Around 8 to 10 people from the bride’s side were injured.
Videos from the scene have surfaced, showing chaos as people attacked each other while others watched from nearby rooftops.
Police Register Case, Probe Underway
Police said a case has been registered against five named accused based on Tejpal’s complaint.
Acting station in-charge Roshan Singh said, “A named FIR has been lodged. We are investigating the matter and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.”
Wedding Completed Under Police Protection
Following the violence, police reached the village and brought the situation under control.
“The marriage was completed under police protection, and the wedding procession left safely the next morning,” Tejpal said.

He has demanded strict action against those involved in the attack.
