A woman in her 20s was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district while she was with her fiancé, in a case that has sparked outrage over both the crime and alleged police inaction.
The incident took place last week in the Khaga Kotwali area when the couple had reportedly stopped to rest due to extreme heat while travelling to a relative’s house.
According to the complaint, two men approached the couple, questioned their presence, and began abusing them. The situation quickly escalated.
Assault, filming, and threats
Police said the accused allegedly beat the fiancé, held him captive, and sexually assaulted the woman. A third man was later called to the spot, after which the trio allegedly raped her over several hours.
The fiancé told police that the accused also filmed the assault and forced him to transfer ₹2,500 online. They allegedly threatened the couple and made them record a video claiming that “nothing had happened.”

“They warned us not to go to the police,” the fiancé said in his statement.
FIR registered after senior intervention
The couple initially approached the local police station, but alleged that their complaint was not registered and that they were mistreated.
An FIR was filed only after they met Abhimanyu Manglik, the Superintendent of Police in Fatehpur.
Following the complaint, police arrested two accused — Lalit and Yuvraj Singh — based on transaction details and identification by the survivor. The main accused, Bablu Singh, remains absconding.
Police have announced a reward, now reportedly increased up to ₹1 lakh, for information leading to his arrest.

Action against police personnel
Amid allegations of negligence, authorities have taken action against local police officials. Station House Officer R K Patel has been removed from his post, while Sub-Inspector Aneesh Singh has been suspended.
Police said multiple teams, including the Special Operations Group, are conducting raids in different states to trace the absconding accused.
Family alleges threats, political links denied
The survivor’s family has claimed that they are receiving threats and offers of money to withdraw the complaint.
They also alleged that the main accused has political connections, a claim denied by local representatives.
A delegation from the Samajwadi Party visited the village and demanded strict action against those involved.

Bulldozer action and ongoing probe
In a parallel development, authorities demolished an alleged illegal property linked to the absconding accused, stating that it was encroaching on government land worth around ₹50–60 lakh.
Officials said the land, located in Shahzadpur area, had been illegally occupied and has now been cleared.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to arrest the main accused.
