Tension spread in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district after the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) reportedly detained two Muslim youths over alleged suspicious activities on social media and suspected links with anti-national elements.
According to local reports, the ATS conducted sudden raids in different parts of the district and took the two men into custody for questioning. They were later taken to Prayagraj for further interrogation.
However, no official statement has yet been issued by the ATS or district administration regarding the action.
Suspicion Over Social Media Activity
Sources said security agencies have been monitoring suspicious social media activities across the country and Uttar Pradesh for some time. During this surveillance, the names of two youths from Azamgarh allegedly surfaced.
Investigators suspect that the two were in contact with certain Pakistan-linked social media handles, though officials have not publicly confirmed these claims.
The reported action was allegedly taken after intelligence inputs received from Delhi, but authorities have remained silent on the matter so far.
Who Are the Detained Youths?
One of the detained youths has been identified as Mohammad Ahmad, a resident of Khudadadpur village in the Nizamabad area of Azamgarh. According to reports, he was picked up while sitting at his building materials shop when the ATS team suddenly arrived and took him away for questioning.
The second youth has been identified as Azam Saifi, a resident of Pathan Tola village under the Saraimir police station area.
Both were reportedly detained from different police station areas and later taken to Prayagraj.
