As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) moves to a third consecutive term in Haryana, the Congress has expressed dissatisfaction with Tuesday’s election results, which went against the exit poll predictions.
Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh, speaking to the media, said that the party finds it “impossible” to accept the Haryana Assembly election results. “The outcome in Haryana is both unexpected and surprising; it fails to reflect the ground reality,” he added.
Ramesh called the BJP’s victory as “a win of manipulations,” and said that serious issues raised by Congress candidates will be taken to the Election Commission.
“This is a manipulated win in Haryana, subverting will of people and a defeat of transparent, democratic processes,” he said, adding that the results are against sentiment of people which was for change.
Turning to Jammu and Kashmir, where the Congress-National Conference alliance aims to form a government, Ramesh said the election results offer a “resounding response” to those who revoked the region’s statehood.
“The people have delivered a decisive mandate, a strong response to those who disrespected J&K by stripping away its statehood,” he said, pledging that the alliance would work towards restoring J&K’s statehood.
