Students of Delhi University (DU), led by the student group AISA, marched through the streets of Vijaynagar today to protest rising hate and racism. The march was organized in response to a recent violent attack on a shop owned by a Northeast resident, where a mob vandalized the shop and hurled racial slurs.

The attackers also tried to intimidate local residents and students from marginalized backgrounds.

“This was not just one act of violence,” said Anjali, AISA DU Secretary, while addressing the gathering. “It’s part of a growing pattern of systemic hate, especially against students and workers from the Northeast, South India, and marginalized communities. Our campuses must be safe, inclusive spaces — not places of fear.”

Marchers held banners calling for unity and raised slogans against communalism and hate crimes. The students said they refuse to be divided and will continue to stand up for dignity and rights.

“We are here to warn: hate will not pass. Communalism will not go unchallenged. We, the students of DU, will fight back,” Anjali said.

AISA has demanded immediate registration of an FIR, arrest of the culprits, and strict legal action against those behind the attack.

“Sudents will stand united against the politics of division,” AISA said.
