A police constable in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a Dalit schoolgirl at gunpoint. The shocking incident happened on July 2 in Fatehgarh when the 15-year-old victim was walking to school.
The accused, Vinay Chauhan, was caught by local villagers while pushing the girl out of his car after the assault. “We immediately blocked his vehicle and caught him, though his driver friend managed to escape,” said the girl’s father, who filed the police complaint.
According to the FIR, Chauhan – who was in uniform – stopped the girl near her school, forced her into his car, and raped her while his accomplice drove. “When my daughter resisted, he pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her,” the father told police.
Fatehgarh ASP Sanjay Kumar confirmed, “The accused constable has been suspended and arrested. We’ve registered charges including gang rape, kidnapping and under the SC/ST Act.” However, investigators face complications as the victim later gave a statement that seemed to support the accused and refused medical examination.
Local women’s rights activist Kavita Sharma expressed outrage: “This case shows how predators in uniform exploit their power. The government must ensure fast punishment to restore people’s faith in police.”
The incident has sparked protests in Fatehgarh, with Dalit organizations demanding stronger protection for marginalized communities. “We won’t accept any cover-up in this case,” warned local activist Ramesh Chand.
Police say they’re searching for the second accused who drove the car during the crime. The case comes weeks after similar sexual violence cases involving police personnel were reported in other UP districts.
