Three kanwariyas were arrested in Mirzapur for allegedly assaulting a CRPF jawan during a dispute over buying train tickets at the local railway station, officials said on Sunday.
The incident happened when the CRPF jawan was trying to board the Brahmaputra Express. At the same time, the kanwariyas—devotees of Lord Shiva—were also at the counter to purchase tickets for the same train, as they were heading to Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand. An argument broke out between them over ticketing, which soon turned into a scuffle.
Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Raghavendra said, “Our jawans present at the scene immediately tried to control the situation. Additional force was sent from the police station, and the CRPF jawan was safely rescued.”
A case was registered against the three kanwariyas under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and under relevant sections of the Railway Act.
The GRP later confirmed that the arrested kanwariyas were released on bail.
