Preparations for a major revision of electoral rolls in Delhi have already started months before the official rollout of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with election officials carrying out voter mapping and verification across the capital.

According to a recent order issued under directions from the Chief Electoral Office, Delhi government employees and staff of autonomous bodies have been asked to verify their names in the 2002 electoral rolls.

The order said, “Preparatory exercises for the upcoming SIR are being carried out. Mapping of electoral roll-2025 is being done vis-à-vis electoral rolls of the last SIR, that is 2002.”

Officials confirmed that Block Level Officers (BLOs) are already visiting homes to collect details related to voters as part of this early exercise.

House-to-House Verification in Progress

The verification drive involves BLOs gathering information from residents to compare current voter data with records from 2002.

“For this purpose, BLOs are visiting houses in their allotted areas to obtain electors’ details pertaining to the year 2002,” the order stated.

The process is expected to cover thousands of government employees, including over 5,000 staff members and hundreds of senior officials, along with contractual and support staff.

Employees Asked to Cooperate

Authorities have asked all employees to check their details using the 2002 voter list, which has been made available online. Voters can search their information using their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number.

The order also addressed those who moved to Delhi after 2002. “They can obtain their details from the Election Commission website as per the voter list of the last SIR conducted in their respective states,” it said.

Employees have been directed to share this information with BLOs during the verification visits and later during the formal SIR process.

Officials Say Early Mapping Will Help

Election officials said the ongoing mapping exercise is meant to make the full revision process smoother once it is officially announced.

“Once the mapping of electors is done, the actual SIR process will be easier because we will already have preliminary data,” an official said.

They added that early verification will also help voters correct any errors in advance.

Political Debate Around SIR Continues

The Special Intensive Revision exercise has become a politically sensitive issue in recent months, with opposition parties raising concerns about possible deletion of names from voter lists in different states.

However, the Election Commission of India has maintained that the exercise is aimed at improving accuracy and removing duplicate or invalid entries.
