Iqra Hasan, the Samajwadi Party MP from Kairana, has been booked by police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district for allegedly blocking a road outside the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office during a protest linked to a murder case.

The FIR, which has now surfaced publicly, was registered after an incident on May 19 when Iqra Hasan visited the DIG office along with the mother of Monu Kashyap, a young man whose death in Jasala village had triggered protests and demands for a fair investigation.

According to police, Hasan and her supporters allegedly gathered outside the DIG office and disrupted traffic by blocking the road, leading to a case being registered against her and several others.

FIR Filed Against Iqra Hasan and Others

Police said the case was registered on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Sharma. Apart from Iqra Hasan, six others have been named in the FIR, including former minister Mangeram Kashyap, Tejpal Singh, Ajay, Anuj, Shishpal, and Satyapal. In addition, 20 to 25 unidentified persons have also been booked.

The FIR includes charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleging obstruction of public movement, disruption of official duties, and unlawful assembly.

According to the police complaint, officials received information around 2:15 pm on May 19 that a group of people had gathered outside the DIG office and blocked the road, affecting traffic movement.

Police alleged that when officers attempted to clear the road and restore traffic, protesters refused to cooperate and created hurdles in reopening the route.

Why Was Iqra Hasan at the DIG Office?

The protest was linked to the death of Monu Kashyap, a resident of Jasala village in Shamli district. Monu’s body was found near railway tracks in Panjokhra on April 21. His family alleged murder, following which two accused were arrested.

Police claimed the accused had allegedly invited Monu to a gathering, gave him alcohol, and later pushed him in front of a train after a dispute related to a girl.

Iqra Hasan had accompanied Monu’s mother to meet DIG Abhishek Singh to seek what she described as a fair and impartial investigation into the case.

Hasan later alleged that although the DIG initially listened to their concerns, the interaction ended unsatisfactorily, leaving the victim’s mother distressed.

The MP also accused police of briefly detaining her after the protest and taking her to a women’s police station before releasing her shortly afterward.
