In Mahabubnagar district, 33 students residing in a Minority Welfare Post-Matric Hostel have allegedly been left homeless for 10 days after the hostel building was vacated due to the Minority Welfare Department’s reported failure to pay rent.

The hostel, previously located near the Water Tank in Teachers Colony, reportedly became unusable after the building owner allegedly evicted the students over pending rent dues.

As a result, students were forced to leave the premises with their belongings and have reportedly remained without proper accommodation for the past ten days.

Concerns Raised Over Shift to Incomplete Building

The situation has become more alarming as students are reportedly being advised to move to an incomplete building in Boyapalli.

According to allegations, the proposed building lacks basic facilities such as electricity, sanitation, proper accommodation, and other essential amenities required for students. Concerns have also been raised regarding safety, transportation, and accessibility to educational institutions.

Students Reportedly Facing Food Shortages

Apart from the accommodation crisis, students have reportedly been facing difficulties in obtaining proper food.

It has been alleged that diet charges and food funds have remained pending since March 2025, worsening the hardships faced by the students and raising questions about the functioning of the Minority Welfare Department.

Students Submit Grievance to District Administration

The affected students approached the District Collector during Prajavani and submitted their grievances, seeking immediate intervention. However, they claim that no concrete action has been taken so far.

The concerned District Minority Welfare Officer (DMWO) has also allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory response regarding the issue.

SFI Takes Up Matter With Authorities

Meanwhile, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) took up the matter with the district administration.

An SFI delegation led by district president Azizur Rahman, along with other members, met the District Collector and the District Minority Welfare Officer to highlight the plight of the 33 students.

The delegation stated that the students have been deprived of proper accommodation for nearly two months and are currently being asked to move into a temporary building lacking basic facilities.

SFI demanded that the government immediately allot a suitable hostel building within the city limits so students can easily access educational institutions and essential services.

The organisation also called for the immediate release of pending diet charges and food funds, alleging that these dues have not been provided since March 2025.

Officials Assure Efforts to Find Alternative Building

Responding to the concerns, the District Minority Welfare Officer reportedly assured the SFI delegation that, following consultations with the District Collector, efforts would be made to allot a suitable government building within the city.

The officer also requested some time to complete the process.

Students and Activists Raise Welfare Concerns

The incident has sparked concern over the welfare of students who rely on government support to pursue their education.

Students and activists argue that education cannot flourish when students are left without shelter, food, and a safe environment to study. They maintain that every passing day without a solution puts the academic future and well-being of these students at greater risk.

SFI Urges Immediate Government Intervention

SFI Mahabubnagar has urged the district administration to take immediate and effective measures to safeguard the education, welfare, and future of the affected students.

The organisation stressed that students seeking education should not be forced to struggle for basic necessities and called upon authorities to ensure safe accommodation, clear pending dues, and protect the rights of all affected students.
