Prime Minister Narendra Modi, upon his arrival in Doha, engaged in discussions with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, focusing on enhancing the friendship between India and Qatar.
In a statement posted on X, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, stating, “Had a wonderful meeting with PM @MBA_AlThani_. Our discussions revolved around ways to boost India-Qatar friendship.”
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that the leaders deliberated on broadening bilateral cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, energy, finance, and technology.
Furthermore, they exchanged views on recent regional developments in West Asia, underscoring the significance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The Qatar Foreign Ministry echoed similar sentiments, stating, “During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the two friendly countries and ways to support and develop them, especially in the fields of energy, commerce, and investment.”
PM Modi was also honored with a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Qatar.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the constructive nature of the discussions, stating, “Furthering India – Qatar partnership! PM Narendra Modi held a fruitful meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, PM and FM of Qatar in Doha. Discussions covered expanding bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade & investment, energy, finance among others,” on X.
PM Modi’s visit to Qatar followed a recent diplomatic breakthrough for India, as eight Indian Navy veterans who were facing death sentences in Qatar on espionage charges were released. The majority of them have already returned to India, with the remaining individual’s return being coordinated, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Qatar on Wednesday night after concluding his visit to the UAE, was greeted at the airport by Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.
PM Modi received a warm reception from the Indian community outside his hotel in Qatar. They waved the Indian Tricolor and presented gifts to PM Modi while chanting slogans like “Modi Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
During his interaction with the crowd gathered outside his hotel in Doha, PM Modi shook hands with several people and accepted gifts, including books. Many attendees also took photographs of the Prime Minister as he engaged with them.
