Two FIRs have been registered in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region against BJP Minority Morcha leader and social media influencer Nazia Elahi Khan, 41, over alleged derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad that reportedly hurt religious sentiments.

The first FIR was registered on Monday evening at Shanti Nagar police station in Bhiwandi. The case was filed based on a complaint by local resident Adnan Ansari, who said he came across an Instagram podcast reel in which Khan allegedly made offensive remarks during a conversation with a host.

According to the complaint, Ansari consulted community members before approaching the police.

Police book case under IT Act and hate speech provisions

Senior Inspector Vinayak Gaikwad confirmed that a case has been registered under sections related to deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Police officials said they are also examining whether the investigation should be transferred to West Bengal, where the accused currently resides.

Second ‘zero FIR’ filed in Mumbai, case likely to be transferred

A second case, known as a “zero FIR”, was registered on Tuesday at JJ Marg police station in Mumbai over the same social media content. A senior officer confirmed that this FIR will be transferred to West Bengal for further investigation.

Police said statements of concerned persons are being recorded as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Complaint also filed by Raza Academy

Separately, representatives of Raza Academy approached Pydhonie police station and submitted a written complaint seeking action against Khan. The organisation alleged that the remarks were offensive to Islamic beliefs and demanded strict legal action.

Police confirmed that the complaint is under process and appropriate action will be taken as per law.

Background of the accused

Nazia Elahi Khan, also known online as “Nazia Sanatani”, has previously been associated with political and legal controversies. She was earlier part of legal proceedings linked to the triple talaq case and joined the BJP in 2018.

She has also faced past allegations, including a 2021 case of cheating, which she has denied, calling it false. In recent months, she has been active on social media and has drawn attention for several controversial statements.

Investigation underway

Police officials said both FIRs are based on the same alleged video content and further legal procedures are being followed. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will determine the next course of action after reviewing evidence and statements.
