Dalit Man Beaten to Death Over Relationship with Upper-Caste Woman in Karnataka’s Bidar

An 18-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death in Bidar after his relationship with an upper-caste woman angered her family, police said on Thursday. The accused have been arrested.

The victim, Sumit Kumar, was a first-year BSc student at Government First Grade College in Kamalanagar. He was allegedly in a relationship with an 18-year-old woman from the Gawli community, both residents of Kushanoor village.

On January 5, Sumit Kumar was attacked by the woman’s father, Kishan Gawli (55), and her brother, Rahul Gawli (24). He was severely injured and taken to a hospital in Latur, Maharashtra, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.

The accused have been arrested by Kushanoor police. They were produced in court and remanded in custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
