JMI Students’ Group Calls for Strike in ‘remembrance’ of Babri Masjid

Protesting against the Union government’s mandate of a holiday to celebrate the Ram Temple Inauguration Event, the student group Fraternity Movement JMI at Jamia Millia Islamia is urging the students’ community to boycott classes after 2:30 pm on January 22, as a “way to remember the Babri Masjid demolition.”

The student group in a statement described their protest as a “students’ strike of classes and reading halls against JMI’s Hindutva appeasement.”

The organization in their statement said that the JMI administration is empowering a half-day holiday to commend a “blood-soaked temple launch on 22nd January”, and believe the decision is an appeasement with “the Hindutva agenda of the Sanghi Government”.

Further in their statement, the organization called on the student community “to not return to any class or library even after 2:30 pm for the full day, in remembrance of Babri Masjid, and in resistance to injustice.”
