MP: Dalit Sanitary Worker Alleges Police Beating for Overtaking Their Vehicle in Khajuraho

Dalit

A Dalit sanitary worker, Rohit Valmiki, has alleged that he was beaten by police personnel in Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho town for overtaking their official vehicles.

Rohit Valmiki claimed that while heading home on his motorcycle on July 21, he overtook vehicles belonging to personnel from the police and electricity departments. Following this, Valmiki alleged that some policemen accused him of reckless driving, abused him, and subsequently took him to a police station where he was physically assaulted.

Valmiki’s brother corroborated the account, stating that Rohit was taken to the police station and thrashed by the officers.

Superintendent of Police Agam Jain announced that the Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) is conducting an investigation into the allegations.

“Statements of the concerned persons are recorded. We will take strict action after investigation,” Jain assured reporters.
