A clash broke out between members of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during a general body meeting at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The meeting, meant to discuss the students’ participation in the upcoming Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) elections, was disrupted as accusations and tensions flared on both sides over derogatory remarks.
According to JNUSU, ABVP members allegedly used casteist slurs and communal slogans during the meeting. JNUSU representatives claimed that ABVP supporters heckled JNUSU office bearers, snatched the microphone, and took over the stage. JNUSU stated, “They used a casteist remark for Dhananjay and called him ‘neech.’ They also threatened Sajid, saying ‘Tumko bhi Najeeb bana denge,’ referring to Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student who mysteriously went missing in 2016.”
In response, ABVP alleged that JNUSU members made offensive comments about Lord Ram, angering ABVP members who demanded an apology. ABVP JNU unit president Rajeshwarkant Dubey claimed, “The Left has intentionally insulted Lord Ram… Every general body meeting is used as a stage to hurt Hindu sentiments.”
