Bajrang Dal Celebrates ‘Reverse Love Jihad’ in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada

A Muslim woman reportedly married a Bajrang Dal activist, Prashant Bhandari, as Hindutva organizations celebrate it in the Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. After being in a relationship for three years, the couple eloped and got married.

Photos of the couple in traditional Hindu attire surfaced on the Internet with some glorifying it and calling it ‘Reverse Love Jihad’. The parents of the girls have lodged a missing person’s report at Surathkal Police Station.

Bhandari, who has allegedly been involved in various cases before, has been booked by Surathkal Police on multiple occasions. Bhandari allegedly met the girls’ mother to seek permission for marriage, on November 30th. The mother said that she wouldn’t decide without consulting the family, but the couple eloped the same evening.

Hindutva organizations claim the girl has converted and is currently named Akshata, sharing their photographs on social media. The couple is expected to appear before the Surathkal Police Station.

The incident took place at Surathkal, which is believed to be a communally sensitive area. The Bajrang Dal’s stance of celebration regarding this love marriage is contrary to their notable view on interfaith marriage.
