A controversy has erupted at a private school in Dhanbad after reports emerged that the principal allegedly made 80 Class X girls remove their shirts during a Pen Day celebration on Thursday. The students, who had written messages on each other’s shirts to mark the occasion, were reportedly sent home in blazers without their shirts.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and local officials, including Jharia MLA Ragini Singh, who are demanding strict action against the principal. Singh described the principal’s actions as “shameful” and expressed concern for the trauma caused to the teenage girls involved.
“I am quite shocked how a woman principal can behave like this. The teenage girls are in trauma after the incident,” said Ragini Singh, who has called for severe consequences.
In response to the outcry, Deputy Commissioner Madhvi Mishra has ordered a five-member committee to investigate the matter. Mishra has already spoken with the parents and students and has promised appropriate action based on the findings of the committee. She stated that if necessary, an FIR would be filed.
“It’s a matter of serious concern. Based on the findings and the probe report of the committee, action will be taken. If needed, an FIR will be lodged in this connection,” Madhvi Mishra said.
The principal has denied the allegations, stating she never asked the girls to remove their shirts but only instructed them to leave the school in proper uniform.
“I didn’t ask them to open their shirts and go. I told them to go in proper uniform only and not to linger around here,” the principal said.
A committee, headed by SDM Rajesh Kumar, has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee is reviewing CCTV footage and questioning school staff who were present during the event.
“We are interrogating some staff members and teachers of the school who were present at the time of the incident. We have also collected CCTV camera footage from different locations of the school,” said SDM Rajesh Kumar.
The investigation is ongoing, and the district administration has assured that legal action will be taken once the probe is completed.
