A YouTuber, Amit Kumar Jha, who filmed and shared inappropriate videos of women bathers at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, has been arrested by the Cyber Police. The police seized a mobile phone from him, which contained over 150 such videos.
Amit Kumar, a resident of Magra Etco Nagar in Hugli district, West Bengal, had been filming women while they were bathing and changing clothes at the Sangam during the holy Kumbh. He did this to monetize his YouTube channel by gaining more followers through these disturbing videos. After his arrest, he was produced in court and sent to jail.
The incident occurred during the grand Mahakumbh, where millions of pilgrims gathered at the Sangam to take a holy dip. However, some individuals, including Amit Kumar, crossed ethical boundaries by secretly filming the women in compromising situations and uploading these videos on social media, causing harm to the dignity of the women involved.
Upon detecting the videos during cyber patrolling on search engines and social media platforms, the police identified Amit Kumar’s YouTube channel as the source. Cyber Police Station Officer Keerat Kumar filed a report, and after an investigation, the police managed to trace and arrest Amit.
The investigation revealed that Amit Kumar, who works as a priest, had created the YouTube channel for financial gain. He had posted inappropriate videos to attract followers and monetize the channel. His actions have now led to his imprisonment.
Inspector Rajeev Tiwari revealed that Amit Kumar’s guru, Madhav Sarkar, from Darbhanga, Bihar, had set up a camp at Sector 24 of the Kumbh. Amit Kumar was staying there while carrying out his illicit activities. The police also discovered that Amit’s brother-in-law is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Kolkata.
