Haridwar witnessed a disturbing case after a six-year-old girl from the Kangri area of Shyampur alleged that a local man identified as Shivkumar Baba committed obscene acts against her. Police acted quickly and arrested the accused within hours of the complaint.
According to officials, the girl’s father filed a complaint at Shyampur police station, stating that the accused, who lived nearby, had sexually harassed his daughter. Following the report, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) and launched an immediate investigation.
Police Action and Arrest Within Hours
Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh said that a special police team was formed immediately after the complaint was received. Acting on intelligence inputs and technical support, the team arrested the accused, Shivkumar Baba, son of Balbir, from the Tirchha Pul area on April 23, 2026.
The accused was taken into custody after coordinated efforts by Sub Inspector Santosh Semwal, Woman Sub Inspector Rachna Pathania, and Head Constable Kuldeep Singh.
Police officials confirmed that necessary legal procedures are being completed and the accused will be presented before the court.
POCSO Case Registered, Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case under the POCSO Act, which deals with sexual offences against minors. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further evidence is being collected.
A senior police officer said, “We took immediate action as soon as the complaint was received. The accused has been arrested and strict legal action is being taken.”

Senior Police Warning on Child Safety Cases
SSP Navneet Singh stated that the police are treating cases involving women and children with utmost seriousness. He said that there will be zero tolerance for negligence in such matters and directed all police stations in the district to respond swiftly to similar complaints.
He said, “Cases related to women and child safety are our top priority. Strict and immediate action will be taken in every such incident.”
