Mufti Salman Azhari Booked in Gujarat for ‘Inflammatory Speech’, Organizers Arrested

In Junagadh, Gujarat, an Islamic cleric, Mufti Salman Azhari from Mumbai, is in trouble after a video of his speech surfaced on social media, leading to his booking. Two organizers of the event have already been arrested.

Superintendent of Police Harshad Mehta said, “The speech took place at an event near the ‘B’ division police station in Junagadh on Wednesday night.” Following the video’s circulation, an FIR has been filed against Azhari, and local organizers Mohammad Yousuf Malek and Azim Habib Odedara.

Mehta stated, “We have arrested Malek and Habib while efforts are on to nab Azhari. The arrested men had taken permission from the police for the gathering, stating that Azhari would speak about religion and spread awareness about de-addiction. But he delivered an inflammatory speech.”

The charges against them include sections 153B (promoting enmity between different religious groups) and 505 (2) (making statements conducive to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code. Police are actively trying to locate Azhari.
