“They Forcibly Removed My Turban and Beat Me,” Says Sikh Student After Attack at Delhi University

A Sikh student was assaulted, and his turban was forcibly removed during a clash at Sri Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Delhi University, on Saturday. The incident, which occurred just days before the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for September 27, sparked outrage after a video of the attack went viral on social media.

The video shows a student in a red turban being dragged, kicked, and beaten by a group of students, leading to his turban falling off during the altercation.

An FIR has been registered at Maurice Nagar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The victim, identified as Pavit Singh Gujral, a second-year student, said in his complaint that he was targeted during the nomination process for the DUSU elections.

“They forcibly removed my turban, beat me, and pulled my kesh (hair). I was attacked by the group, and I don’t feel safe in the college. I fear for my life,” Singh stated in the FIR.

Police have formed teams to arrest those involved, but no official statement has yet been issued by the college administration regarding the incident.
