A Muslim man, Fatehuddin, from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that he was forcibly converted to Hinduism while in police custody on December 14. According to Uddin, the Sitapur Superintendent of Police and a prominent Hindutva leader forced him into the conversion by threatening him with false charges and severe consequences if he refused.
In a video that has gone viral, Fatehuddin recounted the ordeal, stating that he was detained by local police officers for an unspecified reason. While in custody, he was allegedly subjected to intense pressure to convert to Hinduism. Uddin claims that the police officer in charge and the Hindutva leader involved threatened him with fabricated criminal charges, including possessing arms, and warned that his entire family would face destruction if he did not comply with their demands.
“I was threatened with dire consequences, including false charges that could ruin my life and destroy my family. They insisted that I convert to Hinduism or face severe repercussions,” Fatehuddin said in the video.
Despite initially resisting the overtures, Fatehuddin claims that the pressure from the authorities led him to reluctantly submit to the conversion. He further said that the act violated his personal beliefs and religious freedom.
